Course description:
The objective of the programme is to facilitate conceptual understanding of pre-school education and child development, as presented in the current context of early childhood education in Singapore as well as international context; and to raise awareness of contemporary issues pertaining government guidelines, policies, curriculum and current research in pre-school education. It equips students with skills on the theoretical and practical knowledge in developing, implementing and facilitating the early childhood curriculum; and provides the skills to observe evaluate and appraise teacher-effectiveness in providing a creative learning environment and thereafter mentor fellow teachers. The programme enhances and increases candidate’s skills and knowledge as a teacher researched in planning and doing action research; and equips them with administrative and management skills necessary for the efficient operation of early childhood.
Entry requirements:
Applicant who are existing teachers (who are registered with MOE / MCYS) should have degree from a recognized university whose medium of instruction is English; or diploma from polytechnics of Singapore with a credit in English (EL1) at GCE 'O' level. If applicant has a degree where the medium of instruction is not English, a minimum band 5.5 obtained in IELTS - General Training will be acceptable; or if the applicant has a polytechnic diploma, but does not have a credit in EL1, a minimum band of 5.5 obtained in IELTS - General Training will be acceptable for the course. Applicant who are non existing teachers (not registered with MOE / MCYS) should have degree from a recognized university whose medium of instruction is English and have at least a B4 in EL1 / a minimum band 6.5 in IELTS - General Training within 2 years of teacher registration or they should have diploma from polytechnics of Singapore and a credit in English (EL1) at GCE 'O' level and have at least a B4 in EL1.
